Closterium striolatum EHRENB. var. rectum (W.WEST) WILLI KRIEG. Unlike the type variety of species Closterium striolatum cells are straight, slendering in the direction of wide rounded apices. In the middle part cellwalls run parallel converging steadily to the apices. The cellwall varies from colorless to pale brown and is clearly striated.
Dimension: Length 250 – 400 µm, width 25 – 30 µm.
Ecology: Only few habitats are known hitherto. Though the habitat “Klafferkessel” (Lower Tauern) proves that this variety isn’t an abnormality. It’s rare but a persistent form.

Im Gegensatz zur Typusvarietät sind die Zellen gerade, gegen die breit abgerundeten Enden zu verschmälert. Die Zellseiten sind in der Mitte parallel, dann gleichförmig konvergierend. Zellwand farblos bis schwach braun und deutlich gestreift.
Dimensionen: Länge 250 – 400 µm, Breite in der Mitte: 25 – 30 µm.
Ökologie: Von dieser Varietät sind bisher nur wenige Fundorte bekannt. Der vorliegende Fund beweist aber, dass es sich nicht um eine Abnormität, sondern um eine zwar sehr seltene, aber beständige Form handelt.
