Cosmarium dentiferum CORDA ex NORDST.var. alpinum MESSIK. The cells are a little longer than wide and wide, elliptical in shape. The longitudinal cell sides and the cell terminanations are rounded broadly elliptical. The central cut is deep and strongly extended towards the periphery. The cellwall is occupied with verrucae standing in vertical rows and offset from each other. Between the nipples there are little pores arranged in hexagonal patterns. In the chromatophores there are 2 pyrenoides per cell half.
Dimension: Length 60 – 70 µm, width 50 – 60 µm.
Occurrence mostly in middle and higher altitudes of the alpine region, absent in lowlands.

Die Zellen sind nur wenig länger als breit und im groben Gesamtumriss breit elliptisch. Die Zellseiten und die Zellenden sind breit abgerundet. Der Mitteleinschnitt ist tief, nach außen stark erweitert. Die Zellwand ist mit zueinander versetzt verlaufende, vertikalen Reihen von Warzen besetzt, zwischen diesen sind kleine, hexagonal angeordnete kleine Poren. In die Chromatophoren sind jeweils 2 Pyrenoiden je Zellhälfte eingelagert.
Dimensionen:60 – 70 µm, Breite 50 – 60 µm.
Hauptsächlich in mittleren und höheren Lagen im alpinen Raum, im Flachland fehlend.
