Members of the genus Arcella construct a proteinaceous test (shell) with numerous tiny alveoli reinforcing the test.

Three images. Pseudostome view and two zooms on the building units of the honeycomb shell structure. In the last picture we can also see scales of Centroplasthelida (genus Acanthocystis) that were deposited on the shell during preparation.
