Description: The cells are only a little longer than broad. The cell halves are oval, the cell ends are broadly rounded off. The central cut (cut between the cell halves) extends towards the periphery. The cell wall is occupied with 3–5 concentric rows of pricks. The vertex view (apical view) looks triangular with concave sides and broadly rounded off ends.
Dimension: Length (35)–40–55–(65) µm, width (27)–35–43–(50) µm.
Occurrence: A very adaptive species. Widely spread in moderate acidic waters in the alps up to altitudes of 2800 m.
