Members of the genus Serritaenia produce extracellular mucilage with a pigmentation for UV-protection. For details please look at Busch, A., Hess, S.:

The cells shown here were attached to Sphagnum leaves.

First:Cell colony in its UV protective mucilage.
Second and third:Same colony at a higher magnification.
Fourth to sixth:Detailed views showing chloroplasts, pyrenoids and nuclei.
The fully developed cells shown in the image No. 5 have dimensions L = 23.5–24 µm and B = 15–17 µm.
Seventh:Cell in binary fission.
