Three images. Two states of sexual reproduction generating auxospores.

First:Early state (arrow).
Second:Later phase of another couple (arrow). The epivalvae are opened, the cell plasmas have united. Optical cross section, the focal plane is near the hypovalvae.
Third:Same phase. The focal plane is higher, the epivalve become visible.

UV = upper valve, LV = lower valve.
