The xenosoms in the test, which originate from pennate diatoms, are clearly visible.

Sampling date 04/2021. Scale bar indicates 50 µm.

The cell is preparing for binary fission. Tiny sand grains are already being collected on the pseudostome for the test (shell) of the daughter cell (bottom left corner).
