Three images.
| First: | Late state of binary fission of Vorticella. The adoral membranelles are retracted and the new cell (the swarmer, left) starts to develop a collar of cilia (telotroch) for locomotion. The dots in the stalk are mitochondria. |
| Second and third: | The new cell has become rounded and already has the appearance of a swarmer. The transitory ciliary girdle for the swarmer phase (telotroch) is fully developed. The images show the situation shortly before the swarmers are going to detach from the stalk of the mother cell. |
