Acutodesmus acutiformis (Schröder) P.M.Tsarenko & D.M.John 2011

Most likely ID: n.a.

Basionym: Scenedesmus acutiformis Schröder 1897

Add’l Synonyms: Enallax acutiformis (Schröder) Hindák 1990

Sampling date 06/2025. Scale bars indicate 10 µm.

Two images.

This species is known for its coenobia with linearly or slightly alternatingly arranged cells rather than double-rowed arrangement! As can be seen from the division pattern of the freshly divided cell, located on the right in the upper row of the cell cluster, birowing is evidently the standard case in this population.

Sampling date 06/2025. Scale bars indicate 5 µm.

Two images. Enlarged section of the area of the newly divided cell.

This two optical tomographic sections show the reason for the arrangement of cells in double rows:
Two consecutive cell divisions within the membrane of the mother cell determine the double row structure of the division products.

First:Optical tomographic section located nearer to the cell surface.
Second:Deeper-lying optical tomographic section.
